Slashdot reports that the guidelines for punishment for spammers has been released (in relation to the CAN-SPAM act).
Curious to see what Congress has to say about this one.
While I do feel that spam is annoying... prison time seems a bit drastic. I would think massive fines would likely serve a better deterrent in this respect. The last thing we need to do is put more people into prison, especially for a non-violent act like spam.
Not to mention that some of the worst spammers in the world are outside of the US, I find it silly that we would then seek them out to punish them in our country. As if Pakistan came up with a new law against spam and then told us that they wanted someone that lived in California to be sent to them to be imprisoned (or even imprisoned in our own country), we would just hand them over.
(wonder what the tax implications of that are?)
